Collecting a DNA sample is very easy. It can be done in the comfort of your home using an oral swab, following the kit's instructions. Once you collect your sample, you can post it back to us using the provided mailing bag free of charge.

Predisposition to Osteoarthritis: A major cause of degenerative cartilage disease and disability in adults that causes pain and stiffness. This condition is the most common form of joint disease. Worldwide, 18% of women and 9.6% of men over the age of 60 suffer from symptomatic osteoarthritis, of which a quarter are unable to carry out regular daily activities. There is no cure for osteoarthritis, and there are no effective treatments to stop its progression. The gene analysed is GDF5.
Osteoporosis Risk: Osteoporosis is a silent pathology with no obvious clinical symptoms until a fracture occurs. It is a multifactorial disease caused by the interaction of environmental and genetic factors and is probably the most common bone disease. Women are more affected than men, but men are no exception. It is characterized by low bone density, and there are various causes for this. Some studies report that vitamin D deficiency can lead to decreased bone density and increased risk of disease. The decline in oestrogen characteristic of menopause also appears to be a major mechanism for both osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Is it necessary to fast before taking the sample?

No. Genetic testing analyses our DNA which is immutable. Unlike the values obtained through classic clinical analyses, they can therefore be carried out at any time of the day.

How long does my sample last after collection?

You should plan to ship your sample back the same day you collect it. Take your completed kit to a local An Post office before end-of-day pickup to have it overnighted to the lab (Monday – Thursday only). empowerDX is not responsible for An Post shipping delays.

Does this test provide permanent results?

The results of this test are permanent. The genetic predisposition shown in your results will highlight your long-term reaction to caffeine.

Are genetic tests painful?

No! Genetic tests from empowerDX are painless. We provide a simple Buccal mouth swab to take DNA samples from inside your mouth so there should be no pain caused through proper use.

When will my kit be delivered?

Your order will be delivered with An Post within 3-5 business days. At home tests are shipped Monday – Friday. Make sure to order in advance to avoid possible shipping delays.
